Chris, Carmen, Al,
As you requested of me back in March I have had a couple of conference calls with various State Leaders over the last couple of weeks. A number of serious organizational issues have come to the forefront during these calls. The consensus of the State leaders is that a face-to-face meeting with National Leadership is necessary. A committee of State Leaders will meet with National Leadership. I have taken the liberty of scheduling a meeting for Sat. May the 19th in Phoenix at Childress Kia dealership at 13:00 hrs.
Look forward to seeing you all and resolving these issues.

Gentlemen,
In the course of our conference call each of you clearly indicated that the issues that were discussed during those calls were issues that each of you thought were of immediate concern and MUST be addressed quickly.
I have forwarded to each of you Chris, and Al's responce to our meeting. I would like to hear from each of you as soon as possible if you are willing to accept this gentle rebuff, and wait for these promised plans and meetings or do you still feel that the time is now for us to talk to the National leadership and proceed trying to convince them that you will not be put off any longer.
I also need your input as to specific issues minus any personal animosity that we want to address. I know from our conversations that each of you are loyal MCDC members and the action we are trying to take is designed to make MCDC better, improve communications between Nat'l and State and address some very important issues that have become an abcess in the Leadership relationship.
Please send your thoughts quickly.

Bob,
When was this committee of state leaders formed ? Why are we now be notified of> this committee ? Any issues should have been brought forth and discussed prior to any meeting place at the leisure of all concerned. The state leaders folllow directives from national. This meeting will accomplish nothing that can't be accomplished by other means. This so called committee is news to me. I don't like surprises..... No meeting for me..... Thanks ... Al

Thanks for your response to my letter about the meeting. As you were the ones who tasked me with talking to State leaders I wasn't aware that further communication on this was necessary until I had something to report. I know I have mentioned to Al on at least 3 occasions, most lately the other morning when Al called and woke me up that I had been talking to The State Leaders and there were some issues that were going to have to be addressed.
I apologize if you think I should have been keeping you up to date before I had anything to report. Chris I can certainly sympathize with the "worn thin " part , it won't bring you any comfort but you are not alone in that particular malady. The State leaders feel that the issues they need to resolve are of an immediate nature and need to be addressed as soon as possible. Care was taken not to schedule during your vacation in deference to your fatigue and the need for some family time. They also feel that these issues can only be resolved in a face to face with National. That to insure the integrity of the organization none of the issues should be addressed by e- mail, or telephonically. In addition, again in deference to you ,the meeting was scheduled in your home town as opposed to some location more equidistant to all. They are confident, as am I , that once you are made aware of the personal sacrifice and extraordinary expence and effort they are putting forth in order to communicate with you directly, you would have enough respect for them to alter your plans for 4 or 5 hours for one day in order to meet with them Plane tickets are already purchased, vacation days arranged, motel reservations made. We will be in Phoenix the 19th and are looking forward to seeing all of you there.
Bob

Something is not right here, we spoke on the phone just a few days ago -you mentioned nothing of the meeting, you had no idea when I would be returning home and knew nothing of my plans after that -how could you "plan" a meeting, give the people the go ahead to purchase tickets and get a meeting place without notifying anyone? Bad idea. Again, I am scheduled to be on the border to speak with new landowners and to assess the expense and effectiveness of new technology. Holding a meeting at Rusty's place will not happen - when we do have a meeting planned it will be somewhere else. And still I need to know the agenda, a list of attendees and the purpose of the meeting. I don't blindly walk into anything, and this scenario is a bit suspicious.

He's trying to do the "bully thing" trying to put a scare into us and I am sure he is really pissed. The boss doesn't like being told what to do. I don't blame him for being pissed off (and a bit paranoid) about a scheduled meeting. I can't see how he can be pissed off if what we are trying to do is to save the organization and moral of same and move ahead. He is threatened by what is taking place. > We have the numbers that are concerned about all of this for now but the thing I am concerned about Bob is that the next thing out will be a bully letter to all of the State Chapter Leaders and that will surely scare off any additional support and maybe some we have. We better have a complete and accurate list of those who support this, who is in it for sure and he needs to get the message that we are serious and not intimidated. I think we are too far into this thing to back out so we better be making that plan B and where we are going to go, how far we are going to go with this. I think we better have a responding letter/email signed by all of us ready to send out to all State leaders and Chapter Directors showing who is locked into this thing, something like that. If that happens and does not work then we go to or........at first threaten to go to the media.
This is a bad deal and the timing sucks because the media and all will just love it if it goes that far. We and the MCDC can be the loser if selfish self preservation prevails. This is not necessarily my only suggestions but it's my thoughts for now. I am curious about what the others are thinking as well as their suggestions or solutions. We are going to have to another conference call to find out some of these and other facts but are any of us surprised about any of this?.....................Ed

MCDC National Directors and State Directors:
Recently many MCDC State Directors, as well as others not in leadership position, have been contacted by Bob Wright, our Deputy Executive Director for MCDC requesting that an emergency meeting be held to discuss issues which are not quite clear to the MCDC Board and it's National Directors. Bob Wright was recently tasked with making contact with state directors to gather information and feedback regarding needs and desires and to gather information to iron out procedural issues etc. In no way was Bob Wright tasked
with organizing a meeting to address these issues with our State Directors without the consent of the Board and a majority vote by the National Directors.
A series of conference calls and regional meetings are in the planning process for mid-to late summer. These meetings were designed to introduce our new brochures, new products such as hat and shirts, new informational and training DVDs as well as to discuss expanding our National leadership personnel. These meetings are also intended to address changes in fundraising and the growth of MCDC post separating from our partnership with Declaration Alliance. In light of our impending separation from our partnership with Declaration Alliance, as we anticipate our non-profit 501c3 status being cleared by the IRS, there will be many new opportunities and a need for expanded our National Leadership. We have waited a long time to gain our independence, which will require us to stand on our own. There will be more work that will need to be handled by expanding our volunteer leadership as well as hiring new consultants as independent contractors.
Many of you have pledged to attend an unauthorized meeting in Phoenix, AZ. That meeting is not sanctioned by nor will be attended by any members of the MCDC Board or National Leadership. The Board and National Leadership were not provided an agenda or a list of attendees, nor were provided with adequate notification of the meeting. The date chosen for the meeting also conflicts with two monthly border watch operations- AZ and CA who are holding weekend border musters that weekend. I strongly suggest that State Directors submit to the Board and National Leadership a brief or in-depth synopsis regarding topics of frustration, ideas for improvement and constructive feedback on how to improve the organization, procedures and offer your ideas on the future direction for MCDC.
The MCDC Board and National Directors look forward with enthusiasm to your feedback and towards face-to-face regional meetings during the summer months.
Yours For America,
