Mr. Chris Simcox
President – MCDC, Board Chairman

Dear Mr. Simcox,

During our phone conversation on Tuesday, May 26, 2007, I told you I attended the May 19, 2007 meeting in Phoenix.  You are aware of the motion which sought reinstatement of the unjustly terminated Minutemen and asked that they be returned to the jobs they held.  Among other things, it also asked for a meeting of all State Directors, reconciliation of the funds collected for the fence project, a development of a Leadership Council and other items outlined in the motion.

Upon my return from Phoenix, I initiated the first item of the motion:  reinstatement of myself as Colorado Springs Area Chapter Director, and Minuteman volunteer.  I was encouraged during our conversation when you said you wished me to remain as Colorado Springs Area Chapter Director and to restore me to full volunteer status.  I asked you about the questions regarding finances, accounting, etc.  You said everything was done according to law, told me about the audit which was performed, and said full disclosure would be made.  You also said that Carmen was already in the process of making State account information available to members.  You assured me that the meeting to resolve the other issues would happen this summer.  I explained to you that it is very important to me that I am able to stand before a crowd and before the people I lead and tell them that all of MCDC finances are handled in a strictly legal and ethical manner.  I asked you if I should have any problems doing that, and you said absolutely not.  I explained that I’m not accusing anyone of anything, but that questions about our organization’s finances are legitimate and should be answered and you agreed.

I appreciated the positive and conciliatory tone of our conversation, and left it believing we were making progress, and although you expressed reservation with respect to reinstating some volunteers, I was hopeful that with two days remaining before the Thursday, May 24 deadline, that this matter would be similarly worked out with them and we could move on.

I didn’t intend for my actions or words to imply that I did not remain fully in support of the motion which was made at the May 19, 2007 Phoenix meeting.  It was quite the contrary.  I believed, however, after our phone conversation, that we were making progress toward satisfying the items outlined in that motion.

I have now come to understand that the remaining volunteers have not been reinstated, and that evidently this situation has been used to further divide and discredit the fine men who sought to bring this matter to resolution.

Chris, these are men of honor and I know they have been trying to get these matters resolved for a very long time.  I am disappointed that this opportunity to address people’s legitimate questions, to make MCDC financial records transparent in detail so everyone can have confidence in our organization, and the opportunity to seek common ground to strengthen MCDC rather than weaken it has been squandered.

As I told you on the phone, I can’t stand in front of a group of people and those whom I lead and represent MCDC if I have any doubts about the integrity of our organization.  I find that because of recent events, I am not able to do that.

Therefore, this letter serves as my letter of resignation from MCDC, effective immediately.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Jeff Henry
