BACK to the Library

On July 5-7, 2007, two PBA Minutemen went to the border and took the following pictures of the government's barrier being errected between Naco and the Huachuca Mountains along the Arizona-Mexico border. Additionally, the border road, formerly little more than two tire ruts, has been graded to the condition seen below. The barrier is being built at a very fast pace by the National Guard Corps of Engineers (see image below) and the question arises: Why solicit donations for a fence that is unnecessary given the proximity of the government's barrier and the redundancy of the MCDC fence?

This is a close up of the Fort Benning, Georgia sign. The National Guard 63rd Engineering Co. is in charge of this particular section of the government barrier.

This is a representative sample of the barrier being built by the National Guard between Douglas, Arizona and the Huachuca Mountains. Currently the barrier is near Naco, Arizona.

Heavy Equipment at Government Fence
This picture is representative of some of the heavy equipment being used by the Engineers in constructing the government barrier and for improving the border road.

Formerly bad road now graded by the Government fence.
The former border road was little more than two wheel ruts running along the US-Mexico border. With the help of the Engineers, the road is now wide enough to accomodate the barrier itself and the equipment to build it. Later the road will make travel by the Border Patrol much easier. Note the vehicle barrier on the south side of the road. This has been moved from the south side to accomodate building and vehicular traffic.

Government Road and Fence 1
More pictures of the vast improvement in the border road. Note the MCDC fence on the north side of the graded road. It appears that the government barrier will run in front of the MCDC fence.

Government Road and Fence 2
Note the wide well-graded road and construction area running in front of the MCDC funded fence.

Government Road and Fence 3
A long shot of the graded road and construction area. Note the vehicle barrier on the south side of the road. This has been moved from the north side to accomodate building and vehicular traffic.
